This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for August 3.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was on San Clemente Island from July 27-30.

A REDDISH EGRET flew over the Ballona Creek mouth and stopped briefly on July 28.

YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS included a juvenile along Ballona Creek (adjacent to the Ballona salt pan) on July 30 and an adult at the nearby Ballona Freshwater Marsh on August 1 (along the Lincoln arm of the marsh).

The GRACE'S WARBLER at Chilao Flat in the San Gabriel Mountains was reported through July 28. Google Earth coordinates for the specific location are 34 19’ 40.88” N 118 00’ 31.00” W. The bird has been in tall pines along the road past the Visitor's Center and just beyond the picnic area loop "exit" where it intersects the main Chilao road again.

A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was in Topanga on July 30.
